Ivana Poparic was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in a family of musicians. At the age of eight she received her first formal cello lessons from her father Ivan Poparic and Valter Despalj. She participated in numerous festivals, performed in leading ensembles and won diverse prizes at national competitions.
Ms. Poparic made her orchestral debut at the Young Talent Festival at the age of sixteen. Ivana Poparic was awarded the "October Prize for Music "by the city of Belgrade and won first prize at the International "Isola di Capri" Duo Competition in Italy.
Admitted to Boris Pergamenschikov’s renowned cello class at the Musikhochschule Cologne, she also received chamber music coaching with the members of the "Amadeus Quartet". Subsequently, she followed postgraduate cello courses at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam with Dmitri Ferschtman and Elias Arizckuren and chamber music with Istvan Parkany and Willem Brons. Ms. Poparic also followed courses with Daniil Shafran and coaching sessions with Natalia Gutman.
As a member of internationally renowned chamber ensembles, Ms. Poparic has been privileged to tour the world, from China and Japan to Europe and the United States. She has been living in Amsterdam since 1991.
