Joël Luik

Joël Vuik is a Dutch countertenor based in Northern Germany, performing across opera, oratorio, and concert repertoire. He completed his Bachelor of Classical Voice at Codarts Rotterdam with distinction, studying with Charlotte Riedijk, and went on to earn his Master’s degree with distinction at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre Hamburg under Prof. Jörn Dopfer. He was subsequently invited to join the prestigious Konzertexamen programme.

Recent highlights include performing The Dying Swan from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg with the Symphonischer Chor Hamburg under the direction of Matthias Janz. He also appeared in the modern revival and CD recording of Johann Friedrich Agricola’s opera Achille in Sciro at Theatre Altenburg Gera, conducted by Gerd Amelung and directed by Laurence Dale. The recording received international attention and was nominated for the International Classical Music Awards.

Joël’s repertoire spans Baroque opera and sacred works by Bach, Handel, and Schütz, as well as contemporary projects and crossover programmes. He has collaborated with conductors including Matthias Janz, Matthias Beckert, and Antonius Adamske. His artistic development has been shaped through work with distinguished mentors such as Philippe Jaroussky, Michael Chance, Roberta Alexander, and Margreet Honig, whose renowned approach to breath and vocal freedom has been a lasting influence on his singing.
