John Moffatt

Born in Montreal, Canada, John Moffatt graduated from McGill University with distinction in Viola Performance. He continued studies in Germany and Austria, including the class of Hatto Beyerle, of the Alban Berg Quartet, at the Vienna Academy of Music.

A longtime member of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, he also performed and toured extensively with the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna State Opera Orchestra.  Furthermore, he has appeared with many other ensembles including the Vienna Symphony, the Austrian Radio Orchestra, the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra, the Colorado Festival Orchestra and the Malta Philharmonic. He taught violin and viola as a member of the faculty of Algoma University College in Canada and was a founding member of the Canadian String Quartet.  Symphony, chamber orchestra and string quartet tours have taken him to over 100 countries around the world.
