Hana Chu

An acclaimed soloist and collaborative pianist, Dr. Hana Chu has performed internationally throughout North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, appearing with a wide range of distinguished artists.

Widely sought after as a chamber musician and collaborator, Dr. Chu maintains an active performance career across classical and contemporary repertoire. Her international engagements have included performances and educational outreach in Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, and Thailand, as well as appearances at major conferences such as the International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC) in Valencia, Spain.

A strong advocate of new music, she has premiered works by leading contemporary composers including Michael Torke and has released an album on Ecstatic Records, broadcast on classical music stations across the United States. Her collaborative interests also extend beyond traditional classical repertoire, and she enjoys working across genres to create engaging and innovative performances.

A native of South Korea, Dr. Chu received her degrees from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Matti Raekallio and Jerome Lowenthal, and from the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Nelita True and Jean Barr.

Dr. Chu is currently on the piano faculty at Denison University and is also on faculty at the Encore Chamber Music Institute in Cleveland. An active educator, she regularly presents at national conferences including MTNA and NCKP, serves on the board of the Ohio Music Teachers Association, and is a frequent juror for piano competitions.
